How much will it cost to paint your home, and the things to take into consideration while thinking about this.

A lot of people when thinking about the cost of a paint job assume there are some set standard square-foot pricing for residential interior painting and exterior painting. There are too many variables involved in house painting. When a painting contractor looks at your home he has to consider such things like the condition of the surfaces which have to be painted and the type of colors that the customer wants it to be painted and type of material that they wanted painted with. Also the going rates at that time are an important cost factor. In the summer in a busy year you get a much higher cost of paint job than in the off season or if local economy is down.

You have to consider what you're asking for. Sometimes you can get a very good paint job and are very low price and on the other hand you might get a shoddy paint job at a higher price.

First consider the material that you're asking for, paint usually covers 250 Square feet to 400 square feet. and this is depending on what you're painting it over top of whether it is porous and rough surface or whether it's a smooth good surface that is dense. If you're using solvent-based paints also you have to consider cleaning solvents, added safety features such as paint masks, and specialized cleaning after using solvent-based paints this all adds up to an additional cost. But using latex paints it solve the problem of thinner which is basically plain water and your cleanup is much cheaper also and you do need to use such expensive masks and safety features.

Calculating your labor will include how much other work can be done by unskilled help as opposed to how much work has to be done by a professional painter. There are different levels of rates even for a regular house painting as opposed to if someone wants to do either a faux finish or paint spraying. Furthermore if there are any serious drywall repairs and posturing this also requires an experienced professional to do this even though this might be the painter but he is a skill the same as painting but in drywall and plaster.

It might be interesting to learn what the going rates are in your area so this will give you an idea on what to expect.

If you are doing this project for yourself by yourself or if you're hiring someone don't forget the cost of doing the job. If you or the contractor is attending to various aspects of the work such as picking up materials, spending time organizing, making phone calls, locating resources, advertising, cell phone costs, transportation costs. This all cost money out of someone's pocket so this also has to be taken into account for.
