Pundits have been predicting a good holiday season based on indicators that the global economy is reviving. Last season was completely blacked out with retail sales especially online retail which was at least 8% lower than what is predicted for the year 2009. According to estimates by Forrester this holiday season online retail sales are set to reach an estimated $44.7 billion about eight percent higher than last year.
This data supports the prediction of the pundits that more buyers will be browsing online and contributing significantly to a great increase in sales. Retailers will also be spurred by this trend to sell more of their products online this year.
Though the indications are positive people still continue to be wary of the market. It will take a few years for them to splurge on buying like they used to a few years back. In fact statistics reveal that
Retailers plan on fine tuning their websites and making them more usable with social media tools. They also plan on increasing customer support and keep small inventories.
At least 24% of consumers plan on replacing their brand affiliations with low cost alternatives.
39% of consumers prefer waiting for the products they want to go on sale.
Searches for coupon related sales are higher compared to the year 2008. This clearly indicates that consumers are careful in spending their dollars.
This situation is highly advantageous for online retailers as more and more people will now try to
leverage their situation by purchasing products online. Many online sites such as SlickDeals FatWallet and RetailMeNot are already helping consumers save a lot of money with special offers promo codes and aggregate coupons. Sites such as DealTaker.com are providing online shoppers with the easiest method of finding coupons and enhancing their sales opportunities through Twitter. Have you registered with these sites to be sure that their users can consider your offers as well?
Here are a few tips online retailers can use to enhance sales this holiday season.
People are cautiously browsing the market for the best deals. Offering them interesting incentives is one of the best methods of catching their attention.
Discounts attract everyone. Whoever offers the maximum discount for a specific product gets to make a sale. Surveys show that at least 87% of shoppers online are planning to look for discounted products and holiday specials.
73% of consumers want offers such as free shipping.
