Page Rank is a useful indicator of how well respected a website is by Google. Just look at Wikipedia's own ranking, for example - it's awesome. But a long long time ago, even Wikipedia started with zero. Don't worry so much about getting links from websites with high ranking.
For one, they probably won't want to link to you just when you're getting started. And secondly, it'll just kill your enthusiasm with all the rejections. Start with small acorns to grow that big oak of yours. If you do want to find websites with a respectable ranking, then read on.

There are a number of ways to find websites that have a high web visibility, but we'll cover just one of the simplest to get you going there for now. First off, I personally recommend using the Firefox browser - it's just nicer than Internet Explorer, and you have access to thousands of addons and plugins to enhance your work or leisure browsing.

Use Firefox to search for, download and install the 'Google toolbar'. Simply visit a website and you'll see a small bar in green where the Page Rank indicator is located. Ho
ver over it with your mouse and you get a score out of 10. Easy. If you don't see the indicator, right click your Google toolbar, then go to Google Toolbar Options, then to Tools, check the box for Page Rank, then Save.

With this tool in your bag, you can search for whatever websites or blogs are most relevant to your niche, and check the standing of the site instantly. But as I said, don't discount the little guys! Every website starts from zero, and a backlink you obtain today on a website with zero standing, could turn into a link from a PR4 or 5 website as that site grows.

Now, let's not also forget that ranking is just one factor to consider when building your backlinks. Sure, it's a great indicator of how well respected a website is by Google. But think of relevance also. It's no good shooting for a link from a highly ranked website, if it has no relation to your website. So apply a little common sense.

1. Download Firefox & install
2. Download Google Toolbar & install
3. Search for web pages or blogs relevant to your niche
4. Look in your toolbar - check the Page Rank score
5. If you like it, go for a backlink!
